Dr. Gururaj Karajagi is the founder and Chairman of the Academy for Creative Teaching (ACT), Bengaluru, - a unique organization dedicated to bring about quality in education in general and teacher training in particular. Through the Academy for Creative Teaching, Dr. Karajagi is instrumental in building over 50 schools of very high quality all over the world. Dr. Karajagi, a doctoral degree holder in Chemistry from Karnataka University, has published over 22 research papers in International journals. He has served as a member of several prestigious Educational and Governmental committees. He is on the boards of Management of a few Medical Universities. He is presently a distinguished member of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission and Chairman of the Committee on Teacher Education. Dr. Karajagi was the Principal at V.V.S. First Grade College for Women, Bengaluru. He served as the Director of the V.V.S. Academic and Administrative College, Bengaluru, founder Principal and Academic Director of the Jain International Residential School, Bengaluru. Dr. Karajagi is a life Fellow of the Electrochemical Society of India and has also served as a member of the State Resource Group (SRG) for the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) and NAAC accreditation, in the colleges of Karnataka. Dr Karajagi is a well-known columnist who writes for a popular daily and has completed more than 800 columns. His three books entitled "Karunaalu Ba Belake" are immensely popular and have seen several editions. He has published over hundred articles on all aspects of education in National and International journals. He has written text books in Chemistry. He is also known for his daily spiritual discourses on a bilingual T.V. Channel - Sri Sankara. A well-read scholar, he has authored many stories, articles and textbooks in English and Kannada. His areas of interest include Creativity, Creative & Critical Problem Solving Skills, Communication skills, Motivation, Work ethics and Human Values. He has designed a complete curriculum in Creativity which is being used in different Universities in Austria, U.S. and U.K. He has conducted more than 500 training programmes in India and abroad for educational and corporate organizations. Dr Gururaj Karajagi is a committed educationist who has spent more than three decades teaching and establishing outstanding institutions that reflect the highest principles of educational philosophy and human values. What compels me is my grave concern about the pressures on students to achieve academically good scores. The push for higher test scores and the demand that all students exhibit high proficiency in reading, math and science is sending reverberations throughout all levels of education, creating stressed-out 12th graders, violent8th graders, attention deficit 5th graders and four year olds who have had their childhoods stripped away from them. It cannot be allowed to go on as it is. It is time we returned to the great questions of human growth and learning: How can we help each child reach his or her potential? How can we inspire each child to discover his/her inner passion to learn? How can we honour the unique journey of each individual through life?
